چکیده

Potentially toxic elements (PTE), e.g. As, Sb, Cd, Cu, Pb, Zn, can severely impact soil element cycling, organic matter turnover and inhabiting microbiota. Very often this has dramatic consequences for plant growth yield which are greatly restricted in PTE-contaminated soils. The use of innovative amendments to reduce the labile pool such contaminants, result as a feasible sustainable strategy improve fertility functionality soils well exploit these latter from an agronomic point view. Water treatment residuals (WTR), red muds (RM), organic-based materials originating waste cycle, municipal solid compost (MSWC) biochar (BCH), have emerged last decades promising amendments. In paper, we report synthesis lessons learned research carried out 20 years on above-mentioned manipulation considered possess physico-chemical properties useful PTE (e.g. alkaline pH, porosity, Fe/Al phases, specific functional groups ionic composition among others). addition, they contain inorganic nutrients contribute chemical, microbial biochemical status. This is reflected by higher content amended and/or increase cation exchange capacity, available P total N dissolved C. As result, abundance, particular heterotrophic fungi bacteria, enzyme activities dehydrogenase, urease β-glucosidase) commonly enhanced soils, while be significantly stimulated. Overall, obtained results suggest that studied used bioavailability polluted status functionality, enhance productivity different crops. offer precious opportunity productive recovery PTE-polluted soils.

Rhizobacteria isolated from a metal-polluted area enhance plant growth in zinc and cadmium-contaminated soil

In this work, we evaluated the ability of rhizobacteria isolated from a metal-contaminated site to produce plant growth-promoting substances, such as indole-3acetic acid (IAA), ammonia, hydrogen cyanide, siderophores and extracellular enzymes, to solubilize phosphate and for 1-aminocyclopropane-1-carboxylate (ACC)-deaminase activity, while assessing their capacity to enhance Trifolium repens gr...

Two bacterial strains isolated from a Zn-polluted soil enhance plant growth and mycorrhizal efficiency under Zn-toxicity.

In this study we investigated the interactions among plant, rhizosphere microorganisms and Zn pollution. We tested the influence of two bacterial strains isolated from a Zn-polluted soil on plant growth and on the symbiotic efficiency of native arbuscular mycorrhizal fungi (AMF) under Zn toxicity. The two bacterial strains exhibited Zn tolerance when cultivated under increasing Zn levels in the...

Evaluation of stream sediment contamination by potentially toxic elements around mining and farming areas (SE Nigeria)

In this work, the concentrations of the potentially toxic elements in stream sediments in SE Nigeria were assessed for pollution monitoring in mining, quarrying, and farming areas. The levels of iron, molybdenum, vanadium, copper, lead, zinc, nickel, cobalt, manganese, chromium, barium, and beryllium were determined. The concentrations of the elements were in the order of Fe > Ba > Mn > Cr > Zn...

Soil fertility and plant diversity enhance microbial performance in metal-polluted soils.

This study examined the effects of soil physicochemical properties (including heavy metal pollution) and vegetation parameters on soil basal respiration, microbial biomass, and the activity and functional richness of culturable soil bacteria and fungi. In a zinc and lead mining area (S Poland), 49 sites were selected to represent all common plant communities and comprise the area's diverse soil...
